CEBU, Philippines — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will compose the inspection and certification team for the safety seal program versus COVID-19.

The safety seal is aimed at increasing compliance of both public and private entities with the minimum public health standards set by the government.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Philippine National Police (PNP) and BFP are assigned to inspect and monitor the city and municipal halls and provincial capitol, all local government unit facilities and buildings, police camps and stations, BFP offices and fire stations, provincial, district, and city jails, barangay halls, and other barangay facilities and all other public establishments not covered by other issuing agency.

The local government units (LGUs), on the other hand, take charge of malls, wet markets, other retail stores, restaurants, hotels, resorts, fast foods, eateries, coffee shops, banks, money changers, pawnshops, remittance center, cash wash, laundry service centers, art galleries, libraries, museums, zoons, sports centers, tutorial, testing and review centers, gyms, spas, cinemas, arcades, and all other private establishments.

DILG, PNP and LGUs are also designated as issuing authorities.

The DILG creates the inspection and certification team for the part of the government establishments while LGUs also create their own.

To avoid duplication of assigned establishments, other details are also provided in the Joint Memorandum Circular 21-01. The JMC involves DILG, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, and Department of Health.

Aside from the safety seal itself, the adoption and use of the Stay Safe. ph digital contact tracing application is also being encouraged.

These programs are expected to increase the confidence of the consumers for a safe reopening of the economy. — KQD (FREEMAN)
