CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has reminded the qualified persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city that their financial assistance will be delivered to their houses starting on Saturday, May 8, 2021.

This is to ensure their safety considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The financial aid amounting to P5,000 covers the months of January, February, March, April, and May.

Labella said the aid could be used by the PWDs to buy their basic necessities such as food, medicine, among others.

The city government enacted City Ordinance 2456 which grants annual cash aid to qualified PWDs amounting to P12,000 or P3,000 every quarter.

Labella earlier said the distribution will not take long since the number of registered PWDs is not that much compared to the registered senior citizens in the city which is at least 80,000.There are at least 11,000 qualified PWDs in the city.

Just like the senior citizens, the city government assured the PWDs that they will also get a cash card for their yearly financial aid.

Last October, the mayor issued an executive order establishing the guidelines for the distribution of the financial assistance, through cash card, for eligible senior citizens and PWDs in the city.

"In order to have more ease in future distributions of financial aid to senior citizens and PWDs in the new normal, the City Government of Cebu deems it fit to do the distribution through cash cards and establish guidelines thereto," read Executive Order No. 96. — FPL (FREEMAN)
