Cebu City Health Department nixes drive-thru vaccination proposal

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Drive-through vaccination center for COVID-19 is not feasible, says Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Health Department.

Ibones was reacting to a resolution passed by the City Council, asking the city’s vaccine board to study the possibility of the city government setting up a drive-through vaccination center at the South Road Properties (SRP).

The resolution, sponsored by Councilor Alvin Dizon, states that the city must find alternative ways of expediting the vaccination program of the government.

“Sa drive-through, dili pa gyud na possible at this time kay kung mag-drive through man gud ta, unsaon man nato pag-monitor sa mga pasyente,” said Ibones.

“Wa man ta mobalibad pero ato pa nang tan-awon. Kung pwede lang na, nindot kaayo na kay paspas ta, pero karon man gud kay naa man gu’y proseso,” he added.

Ibones explained that it is difficult to observe the vaccination protocols under the method recommended by the city council.

“Unsaon man nato pagkuha sa blood pressure nila og mag-drive through, unsaon man nato pag-counseling nila, unsaon man nato pag-monitor,” said Ibones.

Ibones said even the area suggested by Dizon has to be evaluated if it is appropriate for vaccination.

“Ato sa na’ng studyohan og unsaon nato pagpamaagi. Kay kung example, SRP, init kaayo, unya ang atong mga staff ana. Unsaon pag-register, pagkuha BP, interview... Kinahanglan pa gyud na og dako nga pagtuon,” said Ibones. — FPL (FREEMAN)
