Dawn fire leaves P15 million damageto lumber store in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines — A dawn fire hit a lumber warehouse along Jacinto Mayol St., Canduman, Mandaue City yesterday leaving an estimated amount of P15 million in damages.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Jimmy Belecallo, chief for operation of the Mandaue City Fire Station, said that according to DTS Lumber caretaker, Jaime Heverola, the fire started at the office inside the warehouse.

Belecallo said that the 800-square meter warehouse was not totally burned.

“Mga 3/4 sa warehouse ang nasunog kay kadtong naa dapit sa luyo wala maapil og kasunog,”  Belecallo told The Freeman.

Fire Officer 1 Denzel Espares, the fire station’s radio operator, said that the fire alarm was received by them at 1:19 a.m. then it was put under control at 2:40 a.m. and was fire out at 4:35 in the morning.

Mandaue City Fire Marshall, Chief Inspector Noel Nelson Ababon, said that the cause of fire is still under investigation.

Ababon said that the fire was raised up to second alarm and no one was reported injured.

In Consolacion town, Ako Bisaya Partylist Representative Sonny Lagon through his senior consultant for program and projects, James Gallarde, has distributed water and food packs to the 35 families whose homes were destroyed by a fire in Purok Rafael and Gomburza in District 4, Barangay Pulpogan.

Gallarde said they immediately sent assistance upon learning of the incident that totally burned 22 houses and partially burned four houses.

He said they will send more relief goods for the fire victims who are temporarily staying at the Bagong Lipunan Elementary School and Day Care Center in the said barangay. — GMR (FREEMAN)
