Vaccination drive-thru in Cebu City pushed

Sanden J. Anadia (The Freeman) - April 12, 2021 - 12:00am

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Alvin Dizon is urging the Vaccine Advisory Board (VAB) to make a study for possible drive-through COVID-19 vaccination centers in the city.

In a resolution passed by the city council, Dizon said that the city government must find alternative ways in forming additional smooth system for vaccination.

Dizon said that other countries are having drive-through vaccination centers that are successful and greatly helping in its massive vaccine rollout.

“Nindot kining maong pamaagi kay dili magdasok ang mga tawo sa atong vaccination centers. Gibuhat na pud kini sa laing mga nasud,” Dizon told The Freeman.

The system is being also used in Cavite since last month.

“Drive-through COVID19 vaccination is one of the means of inoculation that could be studied and adopted to help significantly speed up the number of people vaccinated,” portion of the resolution read.

Dizon said that one of the ideal places in the city for drive-through vaccination center is the South Road Properties.

“Daku man og hawan ang SRP, kun mahuman na og bakuna, dunay dakung space kun diin i-park ang mga sakyanan samtang giobserbahan ang kondisyon sa nagpabakuna,” Dizon noted.

He is optimistic that the proposed scheme will be successful.

“Drive-through clinics may offer a safer, more convenient and less contagious way of getting the jab as well as offering alternative for those who have vehicles thus cutting the lines in our on-site vaccination centers,” the resolution further highlighted.

After health workers, senior citizens are next priority for the vaccination.

In previous interview, Mayor Edgardo Labella said that the city government will use all the vaccines from national government first before they will purchase vaccines using the city’s budget allocation. — GMR (FREEMAN)
