Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue attain over 100% on immunization

CEBU, Philippines —  The Lapu-Lapu City government has conferred a plaque of recognition to Relief International, its partner in the measles-rubella-oral polio vaccination program of the Department of Health.

The city tops the list among all the local government units in Central Visayas in achieving more than 100 percent of its target population on the said immunization program.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan gave the plaque of recognition through RI-Philippines project manager Lois Martin Sucuano.

Relief International is a non-profit organization that partners with some of the world's most vulnerable communities to relieve poverty, ensure the well-being and advance dignity.

Data from the DOH-7 shows that for measles and rubella vaccination, Central Visayas achieved 87.51 percent as 606,614 children ages nine months to 59 months old were vaccinated out of the targeted 693,210 children in this age group.

For the oral polio vaccination, Central Visayas achieved 87.06 percent as 710,126 children ages zero month old to 59 months old were vaccinated out of the targeted 815,641 children in this age group.

Lapu-Lapu City was able to vaccinate 46,651 children for oral polio vaccine which is way above its target of 45,926 kids.

For the measles and rubella vaccination, it was able to vaccinate 40,088 kids higher than the targeted 38,896 kids.

DOH-7 spokesperson, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, earlier expressed her thanks on behalf of the department to the parents, their partners in the LGUs and those on the grounds in ensuring the success of this endeavor.

This second phase of immunization program was done nationwide and started on February 1, 2021 and was supposed to end on February 28 but was extended until March 7, 2021 in order for more children ages zero to five years old to be vaccinated.

After Lapu-Lapu City, came in second is Mandaue City which achieved 101.20 percent rating with 41,032 kids vaccinated with oral polio vaccines against the target of 40,802. It also achieved 100.56 percent coverage rating with 34,975 kids vaccinated for measles and rubella against its 34,559 target.

Cebu Province has achieved 92.82 percent for its measles and rubella vaccination with 259,973 kids being vaccinated against its 280,080 target while it achieved 92.23 percent with 305,06 kids were vaccinated for oral-polio vaccine  out of its 330,719 target.

Cebu City has achieved 76.46 percent of its measles-rubella vaccination with 67,223 kids vaccinated against its 87,921 target and 79.835 percent for its oral-polio vaccination wherein it vaccinated 77,407 kids against its 103,819 target. — GMR (FREEMAN)
