CEBU, Philippines — Even if ritual showdown and other activities for Sinulog 2021 have been cancelled, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia will still offer a Sinulog dance to Señor Santo Niño on Sunday.

This will be the 11th year that the governor will be offering a dance to the Seño Santo Niño which has been her tradition every year since she sits as governor.

“I feel like it is my moral duty to still give homage to the Santo Niño who has blessed the Province so much and on a personal note, he too, has blessed me so much, protecting me against all false charges and accusations, vindicating my name and my family’s name,” Garcia told reporters.

Garcia’s performance this Sunday will not be with a whole contingent but rather with less than 10 people including her.

It will be held at the front of the Cebu Capitol Building with no live audience. The performance will be aired through Facebook live.

There would be one or two Provincial Board members who will dance with Garcia which she describes as “dance of homage and thanksgiving”.

The performance comes also with the collage of past Sinulog performances of Garcia that will last for more or less than five minutes.

The choreographer is Victor Cuenco.

Since 2005 to 2013 and then last 2020, Garcia has been offering dance to Señor Santo Niño every Sinulog. — GMR (FREEMAN)
