Cebu City logs the highest COVID-19 cases in 4 months

“First and foremost, we anticipated this. Wala man ta ingon niingog nanguros ta kay nikilat. Nahibaw naman ta na mahitabo ni,” said Councilor Joel Garganera, the city’s Emergency Operations Center’s deputy chief implementer.

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City now has a total of 460 active cases, the highest number in the last four months, plus the number of deaths at nine by far this month, based on the Department of Health’s case bulletin.

“First and foremost, we anticipated this. Wala man ta ingon niingog nanguros ta kay nikilat. Nahibaw naman ta na mahitabo ni,” said Councilor Joel Garganera, the city’s Emergency Operations Center’s deputy chief implementer.

Garganera was apparently referring to the Christmas holiday and post-Christmas and New Year activities.

On January 13, Cebu City had an additional case of 50 plus one death.

The 50 new cases have been traced back to 29 barangays.

Right now, there are 48 barangays with active infection and 32 others zeroed in transmission in the last 32 days.

Most of the cases are being isolated at the Noah Complex and 67 others at the hospitals.

It is still less 30 percent occupancy rate for both private and government hospitals, said Garganera, and the latest positivity rate is 4.08 percent.

What saddens Garganera the most right now is the number of deaths so far for this month at nine.

“I’m not happy with this kay in the last month we only have four deaths, in November lima ra, in October walo pero karon sa January ika-katorse pa kadlaw siyam na,” said Garganera.

One of those who died is a doctor accordingly.

Five of the nine are senior citizens and others and still in their 30s, that makes Covid 19 not to be taken for granted at all.

There are 55 health care workers that have been inflicted with Covid 19 right now based on EOC’s data from December 29 to January 12. — Decemay P. Padilla, GMR (FREEMAN)
