Dumaguete mayor named envoy against COVID-19 in Central Visayas

CEBU, Philippines — Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo has been designated as one of the local chief executive regional ambassadors of the Bida ang May Disiplina: Solusyon sa COVID-19 campaign.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular No.2020-170 named Remollo as lone LCE ambassador for Central Visayas region.

For the other regions in the Visayas, Western Visayas has Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and Iloilo Mayor Jerry Treñas while Eastern Visayas has Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez and Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

As ambassadors, they will be advocating the Bida ang May Disiplina: Solusyon sa COVID-19 campaign to their fellow LCEs in the region and its constituents.

BIDA means “Bawal walang mask at face shield, Isanitize ang mga kamay at iwas-hawak sa mga bagay, Dumistansya ng isang metro at Alamin ang totoong impormasyon.”

Aside from being a spokesperson in their respective region, they are also expected to participate and promote the campaign against COVID-19 as well as partner with fellow LCEs in promoting discipline in line with the new normal to prevent the spread of the virus.

The new normal practices of which include frequent hand washing, proper coughing etiquette, avoiding touching one’s face, observance of at least one-meter physical distancing, regular disinfecting of frequently touched objects and surfaces, isolating oneself from others if feeling unwell and seeking care, avoiding of confined and closed spaces with poor ventilation, avoiding crowded places and avoiding close-contact setting.

Aside from that, they are also expected to partner with government agencies, the private sector, the civil society groups and media in promoting the campaign. — GMR (FREEMAN)
