CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella announced that the distribution of financial assistance for persons with disabilities (PWDs) will start on December 2, 2020.

The P6,000 financial aid represents the assistance for the months of July, August, September, October, November, and December. The distribution will be done house-to-house to assure the safety of the PWDs.

City Ordinance 2456 grants annual cash assistance to qualified PWDs amounting to P12,000 or P3,000 every quarter.

Meanwhile, Labella also announced that the distribution of the financial aid for senior citizens will start on the second week of December. Each qualified beneficiary will receive P4,000 for the months of September, October, November, and December.

Since the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) was already able to produce at least 20,000 cash cards, Labella said these will also be distributed along with the assistance. The distribution will be done also in a house-to-house manner.

The mayor said there are at least 80,000 registered seniors in the city.

Under the city ordinance, each senior citizen is entitled to P1,000 financial assistance every month or P12,000 annually from the city government.

Last October, Labella issued an executive order establishing the guidelines for the distribution of the financial assistance, through cash card, for eligible senior citizens and PWDs in the city.

“In order to have more ease in future distributions of financial aid to senior citizens and PWDs in the new normal, the City Government of Cebu deems it fit to do the distribution through cash cards and establish guidelines thereto,” reads Executive Order No. 96.

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the LBP, depository bank of the city, and the city government in relation to the cash cards happened on the same month. — FPL (FREEMAN)
