CEBU, Philippines — The newly-installed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas is not keen on implementing new police policies.

Sinas said he prefers to continue the programs of his predecessor, Gen. Camilo Cascolan, who retired on November 10.

“For continuity…Kung anong polisiya na nandyan na ay i-implement natin. Kasi lahat naman ng direktiba natin ay napag-aralan na,” he said at a press conference on Saturday. Sinas was in Cebu for the thanksgiving Mass and for the inauguration of the new molecular laboratory at the headquarters of the Cebu City Police Office in Camp Sotero Cabahug.

The programs include the campaigns against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, terrorism/insurgency, and corruption.

Sinas said the anti-illegal drug campaign is a top priority, followed by an anti-corruption campaign.

The PNP, he said, will be strictly implementing the policy on “No Take” of funds sourced from illegal drugs, illegal gambling, smuggling and from other unscrupulous transactions.

Also, under the said campaign, the funds intended even to the lowest police station units will no longer be downloaded through the police high ranking officials,  he said.

This is to ensure the transparency and effectiveness in the use of PNP’s funds, he added.

He said the stations will be issued with automated teller machine (ATM) cards so they can directly claim the funds for their maintenance and other operating expenses.

Also, Sinas said PNP will continue working closely with the local government units to make work fast and efficient. — KQD (FREEMAN)
