CEBU, Philippines — At least 71 assorted loose firearms have been voluntarily surrendered to Talisay City Police Station last Monday morning as part of the “Oplan Balik Armas” program.

Talisay City Police Station chief, Police Major Gerard Ace Pelare, said the program gives chance to illegal gun holders to turn over their firearms without facing charges.

Police Regional Office 7 director, Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro, said the program also aims to eliminate, if not pre-empt, crimes involving loose firearms.

Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. joined Ferro in presenting the firearms.

Gullas has reiterated his full support to the initiative of the policemen in his city.

Pelare said that the initiative is part of their preparation of maintaining the peace and order in upcoming fiesta celebration and the observance of the All Saints’ Day. — GMR (FREEMAN)
