LTO-7 offers drive-thru vehicle registration renewal

CEBU, Philippines — Vehicle owners may now avail of the drive-thru service of Land Transportation Office (LTO) to renew their vehicle registrations.

LTO-7 director Victor Caindec said the drive-thru vehicle registration renewal service is first and only in the Visayas.

It is located at the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (MVIC) in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

More than 2,000 motorists have already availed of the service since it started operation on July 6.  Caindec, however, said the system is only applicable for renewal of registration. He said new registrations will have to go through the regular process.

The said drive-thru registration renewal is available from Mondays thru Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm.

Caindec urged all vehicle owners who were given extension for the validity of their registration due to the pandemic to avail of the service.

Vehicle owners should bring a clear copy of their certificate of registration and official receipt, insurance certificate of cover, emission test result, and stencils of chassis number and engine number.

Caindec said the system came from Davao City.

“We are very happy with the outcome of our MVIC drive-thru especially on its first month,” Caindec said.

Caindec said the service is very efficient. In fact, vehicle owner can have his vehicle registration renewed in one hour without getting out of the comfort of his vehicle.

Caindec said it would normally take 45 to 50 minutes to process the transaction but due to internet connectivity problem the process takes an hour at most to complete.

The center can process at least 150 transactions every day. It can be recalled that Mandaue City Council passed a resolution last month allowing the said system in the city.

City Councilor Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, who authored the resolution, said the system can help “can eliminate fixers and will minimize red tape”. /FPL (FREEMAN)
