CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu provincial government assured a P24-million financial aid for the water system of Poro town in Camotes island.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who visited the island for the reopening of tourism activities over the weekend, promised that the Capitol will provide the needed funds.

“Ayaw na lang mo pangutang kay ang Kapitolyo mogahin og P24 milyones alang niana,” Garcia was quoted in a report of Sugbo News.

The municipal government of Poro wanted to complete its waterwork project this year. The first phase of the project is expected to benefit about 3,000 households while another 3,000 households for the second phase.

Mayor Edgar Rama said the upgrading of the level III waterwork system in the town would benefit residents of Barangay Mercedes, Esperanza, Cagcagan, Adela and Teguis.

“Sa pagkakaron less ta sa patubig kay kining atong transmission lines dugay-dugay na gyud, kinahanglan nga ilisan. Kinahanglan ta’g dugang nga mga bomba, makina, ug mga reservoir para sa pagpundo sa tubig,” Rama said.

On the other hand, Garcia distributed P2.2 million worth of financial assistance to 19 barangays from Liloan, Sogod and Catmon for their infrastructure projects and socio-cultural activities.

Garcia turned over the assistance to the barangay captains. The amount was part of Garcia's promise to the 1,066 barangays in the province during their assembly last year. During the barangay assembly, the governor promised that P50,000 will be given for the socio-cultural activities and a bonus of P100,000 for the infrastructure projects of those who attended the meeting.

Garcia explained that the distribution was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. — FPL (FREEMAN)
