CEBU, Philippines — Eleven cops from the San Fernando Police Station who recently underwent swab testing were found negative for corona virus disease (COVID-19), while two others yielded positive.

“Accordingly sa initial report..nag negative halos lahat sila doon.  Merong isang pending at merong (dalawang) nag-positive,” said Police Colonel Roderick Mariano, Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) Director, during a press briefing yesterday.

Those who tested positive were already isolated at the Don Vicente Rama Highschool.  The cops were asymptomatic, said Mariano.

It was reported that the San Fernando Police Station was placed under lockdown after the police personnel were isolated, believed to have been in contact with the three arrested suspect who tested positive at the San Fernando jail, Diaz added.

At present, Mariano said the station will remain under lockdown as it will be undergoing disinfection, despite having most of their cops tested negative for COVID-19.

“Doon sa lockdown na personnel, lahat naman negative pero pinapa-disinfect ko lang para maibalik natin to normal yung operations,” said Mariano.

The CPPO director has also previously mentioned last Monday that they have placed the complainant desk temporarily outside of the San Fernando station since it was placed under lockdown.

At present, the desk officer is placed in the Municipal Hall to continue their police service.

Aside from those at the San Fernando Police Station, they have not yet received reports from any other police station in Cebu Province who have cops that tested positive for the virus.

After the three inmates from San Fernando jail had tested positive for COVID-19, the 16 police personnel from the San Fernando Police Station were isolated while the station itself was placed under lockdown.

Last Sunday, San Fernando Mayor Lakambini Reluya had announced that the detention facility of the town was placed under lockdown after three of the inmates had tested positive for COVID-19. GAN (FREEMAN)
