Consolacion mulls appeal on IATF's GCQ tag

CEBU, Philippines — Consolacion might appeal to be placed under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), while the province is set to remain under general community quarantine (GCQ).

In a post by the official Facebook page of the Consolacion local government unit, Mayor Johannes “Joy-joy” Alegado is looking at asking the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging and Infectious Diseases to allow Consolacion to regress into an MECQ.

However, in the post, it was clarified that this is still being mulled over. Among the considerations cited in the post was the desire of residents to return to their jobs.

To recall, before the province transitioned into a GCQ from an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) last May 16, Alegado had already thought of appealing to the IATF for Consolacion to be placed under MECQ.

This was a sentiment shared with Talisay City Mayor Gerard Anthony “Samsam” Gullas.

At the time, only Talisay stuck to its appeal to be placed under MECQ. After the meeting between Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and the province’s mayors, Consolacion joined the rest of the towns in transitioning to GCQ.

Just yesterday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced that Cebu Province shall continue to be placed under GCQ from June 1 to June 15.

As of yesterday, Consolacion has six positive cases of COVID-19, three of them have fully recovered.

Persons with direct contact to positive cases have been swabbed for COVID-19 and have been placed under home quarantine. The Consolacion LGU is still waiting for the results of the swabs from direct contacts.

Areas where positive cases have been recorded have immediately been put under lockdown.

The LGU is also looking at conducting “mass testings” for individuals who have had direct contact with COVID-19 patients.

This will be done through the procurement of universal transport mediums (UTM) to be used for the swab testing.

Patients who travel back and forth between Consolacion and Cebu City for dialysis treatment are also now being closely monitored by the Consolacion LGU through the barangay units.  GAN (FREEMAN)
