Cops look into reports of pedophile activities

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Police authorities are looking into reports that a foreign pedophile is preying on young Cebuanas to satisfy his carnal desires in exchange for money.

Screenshots of a supposed conversation between the suspected pedophile and other foreigners has recently been making rounds on social media. In the conversation, the suspected pedophile even posted photos of him in the company of minors.

A concerned foreign national married to a Filipina posted the screenshots and called out the Cebuano community to take actions.

Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director Col. Roderick Mariano said they will look into the information. He admitted receiving information about pedophile activities in remote areas of the province.

“May nga narereport nga na ganyan. Ang ating kapulisan naman ay noon pa ay (directed) na magsagawa ng malawakang operations sa tulong ng ating mga barangay officers,” Mariano said.

Mariano asked the barangay officials to help monitor illegal activities in their areas.

“Wag tayong mag-alala at ireremind natin ang ating nga kapulisan na hindi lang dito sa QCP aming babantayan but still kino-continue parin ang ating law enforcement functions,” he said.

Mariano is also asking the cooperation of the families, especially the parents, to monitor their children.

He said the police are also coordinating with the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to stop child prostitution and trafficking.  FPL (FREEMAN)
