Temporary bus terminal eyed at SRP

CEBU, Philippines — A temporary terminal for south-bound buses in Cebu may be established at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City.

According to a report by Sugbo News, the official news outlet of the Capitol Public Information Office, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia revealed that Cebuano businessman Bunny Pages has offered one of his properties to house the temporary terminal. The location would be around the area where the restaurant "Lantaw SRP" now stands.

Pages reportedly told Garcia that he is "very willing" to offer the area since the restaurant temporarily halted operations because of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Garcia has, since then, reportedly ordered Provincial Treasurer Roy Salubre and Provincial Engineering Office Chief Engr. Hector Jamora to conduct an ocular on the area and to determine how many buses it could hold.

To recall, the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CBST) now serves as the Bagsakan Center where produce and other products from the province’s component cities and municipalities are dropped off to be bought in bulk by vendors from Cebu City.

CBST is located at N. Bacalso Ave, Cebu City.

Unlike the Province of Cebu which is transitioning into a general community quarantine (GCQ), Cebu City remains under ECQ because of the soaring number of cases in the area.

Under the guidelines established by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases for areas under general community quarantine, regulated resumption of public transportation and inter-island travel is allowed but only to areas also under GCQ.  KQD (FREEMAN)
