Hotel opens rooms to frontliners for free

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government will start accepting frontliners who would want to stay temporarily at a private establishment that has volunteered to house them during the state of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the city.

Department of Public Services chief John Jigo Dacua said two establishments, namely White Knight Hotel and Bradford Church Cebu, have already committed to house frontliners for free.

Dacua said White Knight Hotel is already available to accept frontliners. It has 25 rooms and two persons will be placed per room making it available for at least 50 persons.

Fontliners are advised to submit their request to the Office of the City Administrator at the eighth floor of the City Hall. They are required to bring their PRC ID and hospital endorsement.

This is a first come, first serve basis.

Dacua said the Bradford Church Cebu is currently being prepared, which can accommodate at least 130 people.

He said the city government saw the need to house these frontliners for them to feel safe.

Mayor Edgardo Labella earlier said these spaces are dedicated to the frontliners who are sometimes being discriminated against due to their exposure to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.

“Kaning nga mang-discriminate sa atong mga frontliners, wa gyud ni silay mga angay. Wa gyud sila kahibawo unsay gi-go through ani nga mga fronliners, doctors, nurses, risgo kaayo ni sila. Exposed kaayo sila sa risk. Ila ning gisugal ang ilang kinabuhi para lang maluwas tang tanan,” said Dacua.

(They should not discriminate against our frontliners. Those who discriminate against them do not realize what these frontliners, especially the doctors and nurses, go through. They are exposed to risk. They put their lives at stake for our safety.)

“We are already communicating with other hotels, inns, para i-house ang atong mga frontliners,” Dacua added.  KQD (FREEMAN)
