Religious activities set for Camomot’s 106th birthday
CEBU, Philippines — Several religious activities are slated for the weeklong commemoration of the 106th birth anniversary of the late Cebuano Archbishop Teofilo Camomot, who is now a candidate for sainthood.
Mother Superior Louella Grace Buscato of the Daughter of Sta. Teresa (DST) said that the weeklong event started yesterday with a Walk for Mary which was attended by students and different religious organizations.
It will culminate on March 3, the birthday of the former Cebuano prelate.
Beginning February 22 until March 3, there will be a Eucharistic celebration every 10 a.m. and every 3 p.m. in honor of Camomot.
At 10 a.m. on March 3, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will also celebrate a pontifical mass dedicated for Camomot.
The Eucharistic celebration will be held at the motherhouse of the DST in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, where his remains are also laid.
DST is a congregation founded by the former archbishop. DST is the one initiating for Camomot's beatification and canonization.
The motherhouse, dubbed as Domus Teofilo, was constructed by anonymous donors. It houses Camomot’s relics and other memorabilia which serve as reminders of his virtuous and good deeds.
Camomot was born on March 3, 1914 in Carcar, Cebu.
He died in a vehicular accident on his way home to Carcar on September 27, 1988. JMD (FREEMAN)
