Nigerian nabbed for ‘trying to rape’ woman

CEBU, Philippines — A Nigerian national was nabbed by the authorities after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman in her boarding house along Urgello Street, Barangay Sambag 1,Cebu City last Tuesday dawn.

The suspect was identified as Soky Odungbe Macinnocent, 22, a medical student in a university in Cebu City who is residing in B. Aranas Extension, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.

According to authorities, it was around 3:20 a.m. when the victim went out of her boarding house to buy some food. However, when she got back and was about to lock the gate, the suspect allegedly forcibly pushed the gate. This led the victim to try to stop him.

However, the suspect reportedly pushed her, held her tightly, covered her mouth and nose to prevent her from screaming for help.

Still covering her mouth and nose, the suspect allegedly dragged her inside the comfort room, where the suspect punch  her stomach, choked, kissed her neck and consequently squeezed her breast.

The suspect then stopped only when one of the victim’s roommates woke up to the commotion. After this, the suspect ran away upon knowing that somebody had seen him.

The day after, the suspect was arrested through citizens’ arrest in a follow-up operation. The victim was present during the arrest which was made in coordination with elements of Police Station 2 where she reported the crime.

According to Police Major Elisandro Quijano, Police Station 2 chief, it wasn’t the first time that the suspect did such act.

“Naa naman na siya record diri sa una...basta makainom na siya, mamanyak siya, manghikap, pero wala to siya nadayon og kiha (He has record here. When he’s drunk, he grows horny, touchy, but the last case did not push through),” Quijano said.

Quijano said that the suspect was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened.

The suspect is now under police custody.  JMD (FREEMAN)
