Cops to press charges against “Boy Laway”

Rowena D. Capistrano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will continue to press criminal complaints against the Danao City resident who was caught on video wiping saliva and paint on Sinulog revelers, regardless of the outcome of his meeting with the city officials.

CCPO Director Engelbert Soriano said that, personally, he would still want Jayson John Tapales to be declared “persona non grata” in Cebu City.

However, he said he would abide by the decision of Mayor Edgar Labella and the city officials on “persona non grata” option.

The complaints, however, would continue.

Soriano said they have already prepared criminal complaints for Unjust Vexation, Offended Religious Activity and Grave Scandal that they would be filing with the city prosecutor’s office against Tapales this week.

The video of Tapales wiping paint and his own saliva during the Sinulog celebration went viral online.

He has since apologized.

Labella is set to meet with him to hear and “reprimand” him. (FREEMAN)
