CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said he will talk to the viral saliva guy for him to determine if he deserves to be declared as “persona non grata.”

Labella said the decision to prohibit the viral guy from entering the city "depends on how he would apologize and talk to me."

After the Sinulog, a video of a man spitting saliva onto his palm with face paint and wiping them on the faces of revelers who were passing by on Mango Avenue went viral on social media.

The man behind the viral video was identified as Jayson John Tapales who is from Danao City.

Labella said Tapales needs to be sternly warned to avoid the same incident from happening again.

Tapales, who was accused of spreading paint mixed with saliva during the Sinulog Grand Parade on Sunday, has come out and made his public apology.

He appeared before the office of Councilor Joel Garganera last Wednesday.

"When Councilor Garganera will be back, I'm going to ask him to bring that boy back... I will reprimand him and make a very stern warning to never do that again," said Labella.

Tapales said he received a letter from the Danao government on Monday, requesting for his presence to answer the questions regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, in connection to the "generally peaceful and successful" Sinulog, Labella announced that he will be holding a thanksgiving mass and dinner on January 31 for all the police officers, multiplier forces, navy, and those involved in maintaining the peace and order situation during the celebration at the Waterfront Hotel.

"The men and women in uniform deserve the recognition due them for the peaceful and orderly holding of our Sto. Niño festivity," he said.

Among the personalities invited are Police Regional Office-7 Chief Valeriano de Leon and his staff, Cebu City Police Office Director Col. Engelbert Soriano and his staff, some station commanders and police, multiplier forces, volunteers, and all others involved in the Sinulog festivities.  GAN (FREEMAN)
