Talisay cops nab 27 in 11 drug operations

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Eleven buy-bust operations conducted by the Talisay Police Station resulted in the arrest of 27 illegal drug personalities in line with its intensified campaign against illegal drugs dubbed as Oplan Limpyo Talisay.

The series and simultaneous operations against illegal drugs resulted in the confiscation of at least 106 grams of suspected shabu with estimated value of P720,000.

Of the 27 arrested suspects, 13 of them were identified as high-value targets.

These were conducted around the areas of Barangays Lawaan and Tangke in Talisay City.

Right after the operations, static checkpoints were established in the entrance and exit of Tangke and San Roque by the personnel of RFMB-7 to make sure that the area is well secured and is locked up from criminal elements.

Talisay Police Station Chief Gerard Ace Pelare said the operations were in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Highway Patrol Group, Provincial Intelligence Branch and other law enforcement units.

The president, in his speech during the Sinulog Celebration, had called out on the drug proliferation in Talisay City.

However, even though the Talisay government and police have accepted the president’s statement as a challenge, Pelare said that they have conducted several buy-bust operations before.

“That has been our concept of operations, mao na jud na sa una pa tung pag-assume nako. Ang Oplan Limpyo Talisay, ang concept ana is to conduct series and simultaneous operations targeting high-value target individuals and even street level targets,” Pelare said.

He added that the only difference that they have in yesterday’s operation was that they were assisted by other law enforcement agencies.

“But of course we were very challenged by the pronouncement of the president.  Pero kini sya nga operation, it was (in line) with the launching of the Oplan Limpyo Talisay,” he said.

Pelare also said that even before the Sinulog celebration, they were able to conduct a ‘one time big time’ operation that resulted in the arrest of 46 illegal drug suspects.  GAN (FREEMAN)
