Dino fires back at Young

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino lashed out at Cebu City Councilor Augustus “Joy” Young for criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte’s solution to Cebu’s traffic woes.

Dino, who came to the defense of Duterte, said Young needs guidance “as it seems he is totally lost.”

Dino said Young belittled the wisdom of the president.

“I do not think I need to remind you that the president is backed by 16 million voters with a personal record of 87 percent approval rating, highest among all other presidents,” he said in a statement.

“Even now, entering his final years in office, our president still has a 93 percent approval rating in the Visayas. Even if you are not from the Visayas, the president still has an 87 percent nationwide approval rating,” he added.

Dino said Young is “very insecure” bragging about his over 100,000 votes from the north district.

“What is with your very strong sense of entitlement? Your last name is Young, but that does not mean you should think like a child,” Dino said.

Dino also asked Young if he is trying to prove to everyone that he is better than the President of the Philippines

“You are now a laughing stock with what you are describing as your “entitled opinion,” he said.

“Again, I would reiterate, since your mind and thoughts seem to be out of order - the president, foreign dignitaries, local businessmen, and Cebuanos who voted for you, all believe that an Integrated Mass Transportation System is the way to go,” the OPAV secretary added.

In his visit to Cebu last Sunday during the Sinulog Grand Parade at the Cebu City Sports Center, Duterte said it would be difficult to widen Cebu City’s roads to ease traffic congestion.

He then suggested that aboveground trains be built instead, and more overpasses constructed.

Young then commented that the Manila traffic solution is a failed model to solve traffic problems in Cebu.

Dino said that Cebu needs a basket of solutions for traffic and not just one mode of transportation.

“Your solutions are like expired medicine. They did not even work in the last 30 years to solve the traffic. You’ve have had the chance to solve the city’s problems and apparently the solutions you put out were not potent at all,” he said.

Dino even challenged Young to run for mayor if he thinks he is smarter than the president.

“Baha, Traffic, Basura: that is what you have left as your legacy in Cebu. Word of advice, you better listen properly to the people of Cebu. The sooner you learn to listen, the better for all the Cebuanos,” he said.  KQD (FREEMAN)
