People behind Sinulog success commended

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera has expressed his congratulations to the personalities who made Sinulog 2020 a success.

Garganera, in his privilege speech yesterday, January 22, said the preparation for the festival has gone for months and in duration of the festivities, the public servants and law enforcers were on high alert, ready to respond to any emergency at any given time.

The councilor stressed that after Sinulog Festival has ended, the most tedious job was the aftercare as well as securing the safe return of the tourists to their own homes.

"Behind the grand festival are those who have tirelessly worked to ensure the success of this event," said Garganera.

Garganera commended Mayor Edgardo Labella together with Police Regional Office-7 chief Police Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon; Deputy Regional Director for Operations Col. Giovanie Maines; Deputy Regional Director for Administration Gen. Domingo Cabillan; City Director Col. Engelbert Soriano; Fr. Alladin Luzon who is the chairman on Public, Order and Security at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño; Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office; and all officers and men of the police, military, and other units and agencies, also called as "Task Force Sinulog," who were primarily responsible for the safety and security during the festival.

He congratulated the Sinulog Foundation Inc. and Cebu City Sinulog Governing Board for "turning ideas into this magnificent celebration."

He also congratulated fellow member of the council, Councilor Phillip Zafra, for his tireless efforts in the duration of the festival, and the rest of the council headed by Vice Mayor Michael Rama who have given their time and effort in making the celebration a success, as well as the Mayor's Office, Zafra Staff Members, and their partner offices namely Department of General Services, Department of Public Services, Department of Social Welfare Services, and City Health Office.

He acknowledged their partner agencies and volunteer groups.

Garganera also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for gracing the event, and the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) Secretary Michael Dino.  JMD (FREEMAN)
