Three women sue city dept. head
CEBU, Philippines — The three female workers of Cebu City Hall formally filed a sexual harassment complaint against a City Hall division head before the City Prosecutor’s Office last Friday.
The three executed affidavits before the City Legal Office on October 21, 2019 claiming they were sexually harassed by Lorenzo Basamot, head of the Department of General Services’ records and archives management division, on three different occasions.
To recall, one of the alleged victims said it took them a while for them to decide to file a case against Basamot because they were afraid.
They are also requesting the City Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a preliminary investigation regarding the matter.
“And if facts warrant, an information for the offense aforementioned be immediately filed in court,” their letter addressed to prosecutor Liceria Rabillas read.
In a previous interview, Basamot said he is ready to answer the accusations against him.
Basamot has also filed one count of libel for each of the three alleged victims before the City Prosecutor’s Office on November 27, 2019.
Basamot said earlier the allegations against him are politically motivated because he plans to run as barangay captain in the next elections.
Meanwhile, two of the alleged victims are also planning to file a case in relation to the Anti-Wire Tapping Law --one will file against Basamot and the other will file against Councilor Prisca Niña Mabatid. (FREEMAN)
