2 HVTs nabbed in drug busts

CEBU, Philippines — Two high-value targets (HVT) and a cohort were arrested in separate buy-bust operations last Tuesday at Sitio Ibo, Barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City and at Sitio Loqui, Barangay Das, Toledo City.

In Talisay City, the police arrested the subject Wenie Cañedo, 36, who was known to be an HVT at the provincial level for selling illegal drugs.

Cañedo’s companion, Jovel Sokib, 39, a resident of Barangay Jaclupan, was also arrested, as he was in the vicinity during the drug raid.

Personnel of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) conducted the transaction against Cañedo that turned out to be successful.

The police seized 12 small sachets and two medium packs of suspected shabu.

The confiscated evidence weighed 20 grams with an estimated value of P136,000.

Both suspects were brought to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and placed behind bars waiting for appropriate charges to be filed.

In Toledo City, another HVT was nabbed in a buy-bust operation conducted by the operatives of the Toledo City Police Station.

The police identified the suspect as Rodnie Cañete, an HVT at the provincial level, 29, unemployed and a resident of the area.

Toledo City Police Station Chief Janette Rafter, along with the elements of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the CPPO, led the operation that led to Cañete’s arrest.

Recovered from Cañete were packs of suspected shabu weighing 22 grams and valued at P150,000, buy-bust money, close to P7,000 believed to be his proceeds, a caliber pistol, a magazine, and six bullets.

The suspect is now detained pending the filing of the case for violation of Section 5 and 11 of R.A. 9165 and R.A. 10591.  GAN (FREEMAN)
