CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said that frontline barangay volunteer workers will receive cash gift from the Capitol next month.

Barangay Health Workers (BHS), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Daycare Workers and Barangay Animal Health Aids (BAHA) will each get P4,000 cash gift from the provincial government. Garcia said this will be distributed during the general assembly on December 18 at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

The cash gifts have increased from the original amount of P2,400 usually distributed to the volunteer workers. They will also be receiving kits, which include a new polo shirt for their uniform and goody bags.

These frontline barangay workers’ services are purely voluntary. Although, barangay local government units provide the volunteer workers with honorarium, Garcia said it only depends on how much the barangay could afford.

“This cash gift is actually in appreciation really for what they are doing,” Garcia said.

As for barangay tanods, they will receive P3,000 each on the first week of December. The amount is doubled from the P1,500 they usually get from the Capitol. Cashiers from the Capitol will be directly distributing the cash gift.

The province will also be providing them with tanod kits but this may not be distributed until the next calendar year. (FREEMAN)
