Garcia wants north road project finished soon

Lorraine L. Ecarma - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  To address the worsening traffic condition in the northern towns of Consolacion and Liloan, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has already intervened to expedite the completion of the Cebu North Coastal Road Project (CNCRP).

Garcia met with her daughter, Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco and Consolacion Vice Mayor Teressa "Nene" Alegado as well as representatives of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) last November 4 to discuss the traffic problem in the two municipalities.

The two LGUs along with Mandaue City are part of the north coastal road project.

"I actually met with them. I met with both Liloan and Consolacion--the mayors, the municipal assessors--and then DPWH so that ma-thresh out dayon unsay problema sa DPWH sa mga lot owners ug structure owners," Garcia said.

The governor said the project has been delayed because of the road right-of-way problem. She explained that the lots affected by the project need to be expropriated, however, certain documents are also needed like proofs of ownership before the expropriation case can be initiated before the court.

"We also met before that with the executive judges nga unta inig file gyud nila anang expropriation na complain, within seven days, maka-issue na ang korte ug Writ of Possession," Garcia said.

The CNCRP is a road widening project which started in 2010 yet. But because of the problem in the road right-of-way acquisition the completion has been delayed.

Garcia is set to meet again with the DPWH, the two LGUs and the project coordinator.  FPL (FREEMAN)
