CEBU, Philippines — The Barug PDP-Laban, Cebu City’s administration party, has decided to call for weekly meetings to discuss and address issues confronting the party.

Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia, City Council’s majority floor leader, confirmed this in an interview yesterday.

“Tungod kay daghan kaayo’g intriga coming from within the party and most especially also coming from outside the party... ang among kaatbang they’re trying to sow intrigues sa atong partido,” said Garcia.

“I was instructed by Mayor Edgardo Labella and Vice Mayor Mike Rama nga we will have meetings and gatherings every week,” he added.

Garcia said the purpose of the weekly meeting is to maintain the unity in their group and to “strengthen the bond between party members.”

The resignation of Rama as the Sinulog Foundation Inc. chairman on October 29 after being reportedly snubbed by the Cebu City Sinulog Governing Board (CCSGB), which was formed by Labella through an executive order, sparked rumors that the mayor and vice mayor’s relationship is falling apart.

In previous interviews, both Labella and Rama clarified that they are in good terms.

Garcia said there is no particular issue which made them decide to come up with the weekly meeting.

“I cannot pinpoint issues but sa kadaghan lang nga among madunggan nga maghatod hatod og istorya, we decided nga we’ll have a regular weekly meeting,” he said.

On reports that Rama was seen with some Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) officials, Garcia said their party has nothing against it because Rama informs them as well when he receives invites from the opposition party.

“Moingon gyud na siya namo og ‘oy giimbitar ko sa pikas kay naa lang silay concerns regarding ordinances and resolutions.’ He admitted nga nakatungha siya... bisag sa session hall makakita man mo nga inig recess si Vice Mayor Mike moduol namo nya after a while moduol na sad sa pikas,” said Garcia.

He said Rama only wanted unity in the council for the betterment of Cebu City.

Garcia added that Councilors David Tumulak and Jerry Guardo are already included in the weekly meeting since they are “already part of the group.”

“They have signified their intention to help the mayor and the vice mayor, so ngano di man nato apilon?” he said.

Garcia said all their partymates are invited in their weekly meeting including those “who did not make it.”

“Maybe once every quarter, mag-bonding mi... maybe an overnight bonding somewhere,” he said.  JMD (FREEMAN)
