CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will deploy about 500 PNP personnel for the security measure for the launch of the Celebration of the 500 years of Christianity tomorrow.

“Our preparation with regards to that activity is we have already conducted our usual security preparations. Nag-conduct na kami ng table top exercise last week. We also have already our dry run,” Police Colonel Geovanie Maines, CCPO officer-in-charge, told reporters in a press briefing yesterday.

As the authorities were anticipating a large number of attendees, Maines said that they will be deploying police personnel in the venue, specifically at the Sto. Niño Church, to intensify its security measures.

‘We are anticipating na maraming mag-aattend, and the venue to my information could only accommodate around 6,000,”  Maines said.

Basing on the simulation exercise they had conducted, Maines said that their focus on their preparations will be on possible bomb threats to make sure that all angles during the celebration will be covered.

They have also prepared for the possibility of the “worst case scenarios.”

Maines is also considering on tapping the Muslim communities who offered to help in the security preparations, even if the celebration’s focus is on the Roman Catholic group.

The police official has also reminded everyone who would be joining on the do’s and don’ts during the activity.

“Bawal ang naka sombrero, bawal ang naka back-pack, pati naka-jacket. Yon ang titingnan namin,” Maines said.

He also said that all peripherals of the venue will be covered with closed circuit television cameras to help in the monitoring and to have documentation should there be any untoward incident that would happen.

There would also be several rerouting on that day.

The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines H.E. Most Reverend Gabrielle Caccia is expected to arrive at the Mactan airport at around 9 a.m., while the activities will start at around 3 p.m. on the same day.
