CEBU, Philippines — The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) was recently named as one of the top 20 best airports in Asia, based in the latest Sleeping in Airports survey.

"We are glad to once again be ranked by travellers (as) among one of the best airports in Asia on Our common goal, in partnership with the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, government agencies, and airport community stakeholders, is to continuously improve and provide a positive experience to the passengers at (the) Mactan-Cebu International Airport," GMR-MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) Chief Executive Advisor Andrew Acquaah-Harrison said in a statement.

Based on the website, two airports in the Philippines made it to the top 20 – the MCIA ranked 16th, while the Iloilo International Airport got the 18th spot.

Last year, the MCIA was named Medium Airport of the Year in Asia-Pacific by the CAPA Center for Aviation amongst airports with over 10 million annual passengers.

CAPA also hailed MCIA as the Regional Airport of the Year in 2016, recognizing it as a leader in advancing the local aviation industry.

"These recognitions show that we are on the right track in our improvements. With the opening of the renovated wing of Terminal 1 and the new Airport Village, we will create a whole new level of comfort, convenience, and friendliness at the Philippines’ first Resort-Airport," read the statement.

Harrison also thanked the airport stakeholders, especially the Cebuanos, for their hard work and care for the airport's development.

"MCIA's achievements these past five years were possible because of you," Harrison said.

GMCAC is a Filipino-led consortium managing the terminal operations and other related areas of MCIA.

GMCAC took over the management of MCIA last November 1, 2014. The concession agreement will last for 25 years.   GAN (FREEMAN)
