PROBE defers clearing along D. Jakosalem St.

Alicia Chua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, Enhancement (PROBE) team has postponed its road clearing operation along Jakosalem Street, Cebu City to next Tuesday.

Based on the three-day notice given to the side-walk vendors along Jakosalem Street, the scheduled road clearing should have been yesterday.

However, due to the ongoing demolition in Pasil, Cebu City, PROBE gave the vendors until October 22 to vacate their stalls.

The relocation site for the affected vendors would be along F. Gonzales Street.

“Long overdue na ni na demolition, mao kani atong gi-prioritize (Pasil),” said PROBE Head Raquel Arce.

In the said demolition, more than 50 houses along the riverside were destroyed.

Relocation site and financial aid have been provided to the affected residents.

PROBE is also working on the demolition on the structures along V. Rama Avenue, where more than a hundred notices for demolition of illegal structures and constructions were served.

All of these demolition and road clearings are in relation to the DILG Memorandum Circular 2019-121 that directed the local government units to clear roads from illegal structures and constructions that may be blocking the usage of the sidewalks. GAN (FREEMAN)
