De Leon to replace Sinas as PRO-7 Chief

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Police Brigadier General Valeriano De Leon was officially appointed as the new director of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7, after the PNP’s command conference in Malacañang Tuesday evening.

PRO-7 appointed officer-in-charge Police Colonel Ildebrandi Usana had informed the media of the development, as he detailed De Leon’s profile as well as the plans for the official turnover ceremony tomorrow where PNP OIC Archie Gamboa will stand as guest speaker.

Usana said they are already preparing for the official turnover ceremony.

Gamboa will stand as guest of honor and speaker and will be the presiding officer during the ceremony, according to Usana.

De Leon is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) class 1989 and the current chief of PNP Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO).

Usana said he met De Leon when he was still with the Civil Service Security Group and De Leon was the Chief FEP.  He has known De Leon to be good in management.

“Mahusay po sya pagdating sa management, isa po sya sa mga sharp yung mind pagdating sa mga …issues at nakakapag-contribute sya sa mga management sa initiative ng national headquarters,” Usana said.

De Leon was assigned in Luzon and Mindanao, prior to his new transfer in the Visayas.

“To my memory hindi ko pa nalalaman kung syay meron ng experience in getting to Cebu, kung ang pagiging opisyal dito sa Cebu, hindi pa po sya nagkaroon ng experience,” Usana said.

De Leon as well was once assigned as PRO-11 in Davao as the Deputy Regional Director for Operations.

Back in 2016, De Leon was awarded with the Medalya ng Kasanayan and Achievement Award for being the Best Senior Police Commissioned Officer of Administration.

Usana also said that PRO-7 is anticipating if De Leon will be bringing his trusted personnel along with him just like what former PRO-7 Director Debold Sinas did when he requested the reassignments of some of the personnel in RID-7 during his transfer to NCRPO.

“Pag nag-assume na sya, malalaman natin ang kanyang pamamahala,” Usana said.

Usana described De Leon’s leadership approach as “visionary.”

“Visionary sya… I assume that he would be introducing more positive changes maybe in the context of administrative management over our personnel,” Usana said.  GAN (FREEMAN)
