CEBU, Philippines — At least 21 individuals were arrested for committing different alleged violations during the fiesta celebration in Talisay City, police said.

The arrests were made during the first two days of Police Major Gerard Ace Pelare in office.

Pelare replaced former Talisay City police chief Major Orlando Carag Jr. who was ordered to go with Brigadier General Debold Sinas as new chief of the National Capital Region Police Office.

Upon his installation, Pelare immediately conducted the Oplan Linis Talisay in different barangays.

The 21 individuals were arrested after being caught playing mahjong and tong-its, while others were caught having a drug session.

Pelare said the operation shows that they are serious in all forms of illegal activities.

Meanwhile, the police chief also said that the fiesta celebration turned successful and generally peaceful with all the help of all stakeholders and the public.

He added that he will continue the programs done by his predecessor, as he vowed to improve those he thinks need enhancement.

For his part, Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. was thankful that the fiesta this year ended “smoothly and worth-remembering.”

Gullas marked his first fiesta celebration as the city mayor of Talisay.

At least 15,000 people took to the streets to celebrate the fiesta in Talisay last October 15, according to official estimates.  JMD (FREEMAN)
