Voter’s registration moved to mall

Mary Ruth Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Cebu City has confirmed that the last three days of registration of voters for the 2020 barangay and SK polls will be transferred to Robinsons Galleria Cebu to ease the burden of registrants.

Comelec Cebu City North District Officer Marchel Sarno said that the last three days of registration started yesterday and will end on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sarno said they expect a large number of registrants on the last three days, so the Comelec has decided to get a bigger area for the throng of people that would catch the last few days.

The move to transfer the registration to a mall is in line with the Comelec Manila memorandum that voter’s registration should be done outside the Comelec office for the same reason.

“Taas ang linya unya init kaayo sa guwa.  We will try our best to maximize the registration,” Sarno said.

He added that based on the previous records; there are 800 to 1,000 registrants in Cebu City expected daily on the remaining three days of registration of voters.

The registration for the Cebu City North District voters is on the second floor of Robinsons Galleria Cebu, while the registration for the Cebu City South District voters is on the third floor.

Based on the records of the Comelec-Cebu City from August 1 to September 25, 2019, there are already 14,033 registered applicants in the 1st District of Cebu City, while there are already 19,901 registered applicants in the south district. — GAN (FREEMAN)
