Riding-in-tandem hits payroll money anew

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Another robbery incident targeting payroll money amounting P150,000 was staged by a riding-in-tandem along Bonifacio Street, Barangay Tinago, Cebu City last Saturday afternoon.

This is the third incident involving payroll money robbed by a riding-in-tandem.

Six victims, who are employed in a construction firm, were on board a vehicle when the robbery took place.

The victims were identified as Joanas Yusores, the driver, beside him in the front seat was Pio Cabahug, payroll custodian of the company, Junny Caramba and Romel Condes, who were both from their human resources, and Reymond Jhon Sanico, the Security Guard.

The unidentified robbers appeared from nowhere as the vehicle was about to turn right at Bonifacio Street to park. The back rider disembarked and pointed a gun at them declaring the ‘hold-up’ and grabbed the box containing the payroll money.

Police Major Jomar Pomarejos, Chief of Police of Police Station 3, said that they are looking at all possible motives of the incident, not just the allegation that it was an ‘inside job’.

Last August 13, a similar robbery incident resulted in a shooting incident causing the death of former policeman who went AWOL.  It was also believed to be an inside job.

A week prior, a robbery also took place in Mandaue City when the payroll money of a car trading establishment was also taken. Both of the robbery cases were done by a riding-in-tandem.

However, Pomarejos could not ascertain the connection of the incidents even with the similarities of the way the robbery incidents were staged. (FREEMAN)
