Drug ops net P2 million shabu

Rowena D. Capistrano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Two suspected high-value targets were arrested in separate anti-drug operations in Cebu City resulting in the confiscation of at least P2 million worth of illegal drugs.

Operatives of the Special Operation Unit (SOU) 5 led by Police Lt. Colonel Glenn Mayam arrested Jovanne Cabuenas, 29, resident of Purok 6, Barangay Apas, Cebu City Thursday evening in Sitio San Miguel.

Seized from him was one pack of shabu weighing 100 grams worth an estimated P680,000.

Mayam said Cabuenas is a member of a bigtime drug organization operating in Cebu. He, however, did not give the name of the group so as not to compromise an ongoing investigation.

In another operation, suspected high-value target Lorlando Virgil Ongos, 32, resident of Sitio Lower Puti, Barangay Buhisan, Cebu City was arrested by the operatives of Labangon Police Station in Buhisan Road at 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

Police seized from him two large plastic packs of shabu worth P1,360,000.

Labangon Police Station chief Police Major Henrix Bancoleta said they have been monitoring Ongos for a week before the buy-bust operation was hatched.

Both Cabuenas and Ongos are now detained at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO). They will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.—  FPL (FREEMAN)
