No police revamp after elections
CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 will not be reshuffling the head of police stations following the recently concluded elections.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 director Brigadier General Debold Sinas said he will give the local executives the freedom to choose a new police chief or allow the incumbent head to stay and prove his worth.
“We will consult the local executive and inform them to give our people a chance to perform then we seek guidance. Maybe we can work together,” he said.
Sinas, however said, if the mayor chooses a new police chief, certain guidelines have to be followed.
The police official chosen must have a good track record and has not been assigned to the place in the past to avoid being biased.
“It has to be someone new for a change because if the mayor chooses someone who has been there before, the chief of police might become parochial,” Sinas explained.
Sinas appealed to the newly elected local chief executives to support the police so that they can perform their duties well.
He revealed that they have already met with a few newly elected mayors who have expressed support in the campaign against illegal drugs and other crimes. — MBG (FREEMAN)
