CEBU, Philippines — At least P8.5 million worth of illegal drugs were seized by police operatives during a raid Saturday night in Barangay Lawaan, Talisay City.

The suspect was identified as Lita Reyes Montellano alias "Clarisse," resident of Sitio Tierra Grande, in the same barangay.Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch, said they considered Montellano a high value target. Seized from her possession during the raid was 1.25 kilos of shabu.

Chief Supt. Debold Sinas, Police Regional Office-7 director, said Montellano assumed the drug operation of her live-in partner, Henry Caballen, after the latter’s arrest by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 in 2016.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Manuel Abrugena said that based on intelligence report, Montellano took over the operations from Caballen.

"Noong nakulong na si Henry siya ang nagbibigay ng instruction kung sino ang bibigyan, so siya ang nagpatuloy (Henry was giving instruction from jail whom to distribute, so she continued)," Abrugena said.

The police are currently conducting assessment to determine how big Montellano’s drug operation is. Sinas said he believes that the drugs were meant for Sinulog.

He, however, admitted that no illegal drugs were recovered from the areas where parties are usually held. The Cebu City government also banned parties along the Sinulog route. (FREEMAN)
