Sinulog volunteers, contingents insured

CEBU, Philippines —  At least 17,000 volunteers, law enforcers, dancers, media personnel and workers of this year’s Sinulog have been insured under Malayan Insurance Co. Inc.

Councilor David Tumulak, who sits as executive committee chairman at the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI), said the insurance covers bodily injury and death or disablement from January 11 to January 21.

Frontliners from the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines, nurses and doctors, disaster response team, contingents, members of the media, and some government workers have been enrolled in a social protection program called Group Personal Accident Insurance with Malayan.

“This is to aid injured or sick workers and volunteers during the festivities,” he said.

The payment for the insurance was shouldered by SFI. The same initiative was also done in last year’s Sinulog.

Tumulak, however, refused to disclose the insurance’s worth. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
