Man on drug watchlist shot dead in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines — A 47-year-old man was shot dead by a riding-in-tandem in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City Tuesday evening.


Freddy Canoy, a resident of the area, suffered gunshot wounds to his body, resulting in his instantaneous death.

Based on initial police investigation, Canoy was included on the drug watchlist.

Senior Inspector Rodgene Fudotan, chief of Basak Police Station 3 of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO), said Canoy, a habalhabal driver, was waiting for passengers on Dungo-an Road in the said barangay prior to the incident.

Fudotan said the assailants, who wore helmets and masks, immediately fled after the shooting.

Police are still conducting a follow-up investigation to track down the attackers.

The recent shooting in Mandaue was on December 15, resulting in the death of a man in Barangay Tipolo.

Chad Christian Noval, a resident of Barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City, was just smoking a cigarette on C.D. Street when two men onboard a motorcycle approached him and shot him.

The victim died on the spot.

Cops are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive of the incident and to identify the perpetrators. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
