Report on DOLE workers’ benefits a hoax –Bello

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has warned the public against fake news circulating on social media and by text about the monetary benefits reportedly given to its employees.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, in a statement posted on DOLE’s official Facebook page yesterday, said the report claiming there is a monetary benefit to DOLE employees who worked in the agency between 1990 and 2018 is a hoax.

The report said each worker would get P85,000 from DOLE.

“This is not true,” Bello said.

Bello said the information illegally uses the DOLE logo, the link of the agency’s official website and a photo of department officials to guise authenticity.

Bello also urged the public to be alert on the spread of the bogus announcement and report any similar incident to the nearest regional offices, bureaus, attached agencies, and overseas labor office.

He said the agency has already coordinated with law enforcement agencies to track down the perpetrators. —/KBQ (FREEMAN)
