CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City government distributed over P116 million in cash assistance to close to 25,000 senior citizens and 5,000 persons with disabilities in the city.

Each of the 24,796 registered senior citizens from the 30 barangays of the city received P4,000 while the PWDs got P3,500 each.

Mayor Paz Radaza personally handed the cash gifts to the senior citizens and the PWDs at the Hoopsdome yesterday. Radaza said it is the city government’s tradition to give cash assistance to the senior citizens and PWDs before Christmas to make sure that they have something to prepare for “noche buena”.

"Gisayo na nato (og hatag) para mahan-ay nila ang pagpamalit," Radaza said.

Radaza said those who were not able to come yesterday because of physical problem will still get their share at home. She said that the personnel from the city treasurer’s office will deliver the cash assistance to their houses.

"Ato ipa-deliver (sa ilahang balay). Gamay naman lang na sila," she said.

Radaza also promised a cash gift to all workers in the city government. She said it will be released before Christmas. The 1,800 regular and casual employees are expected to get P5,000 each.

She said that job order workers will also receive gifts but did not anymore elaborate except that this will be made on a special arrangement. (FREEMAN)
