CEBU, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza hopes that the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic can really solve and help address traffic concerns in Metro Cebu.

Radaza noted how hardheaded people can be violating traffic rules despite proper advisories.

"Dugay kaayo madisiplina ang mga tao," Radaza said, adding that most of the violators are only looking after their own interest.

I-ACT, an interagency traffic body, was officially launched in Cebu last month upon the instruction of President Rodrigo Duterte. The body is composed of Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Department of Public Works and High¬ways (DPWH) , Philip¬pine Coast Guard (PCG) , Depart¬ment of En¬vi¬ron¬ment and Nat¬u¬ral Re¬sources (DENR) , Philip¬pine Na¬tional Po¬lice (PNP) , Armed Forces of the Philip¬pines (AFP), and various Local Government Units in Cebu.

The regional traffic group immediately conducted intensified operations against colorum vehicles after its formal launching.

Radaza said the city government fully supports the initiative. In fact, she said Lapu-Lapu was among the first local government units in Metro Cebu that implemented discipline zones.

The city government launched last year the discipline zone in major streets of the city. The program was implemented through the help of the city police force. Radaza also initiated a reward system for traffic enforcers who are able to apprehend city hall workers and officials violating traffic rules. (FREEMAN)
