2 minors charged in court for drugs

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Prosecutor's Office has recommended no bail against a 17-year-old boy for allegedly selling shabu.

The accused, a resident of Ermita Proper, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, was arrested on October 22, 2018 in a buy-bust operation.

Police Officer 2 Cleofas Bonjoc, Jr. said that prior to the operation, their station received a report of the alleged rampant selling of shabu at the interior portion of Belgium St., Barangay Suba, Cebu City.

On October 21, 2018 at 10:40 p.m., a verification operation was conducted leading to a positive result.

Because of the result, a buy-bust operation was planned.

Together with his colleagues, Bonjoc enforced the operation leading to the arrest of the accused at 12:50 a.m. of October 22.

Aside from the illegal sale of drugs, the minor was also charged with illegal possession of shabu, where the city’s prosecutor’s office has recommended a P200,000 bail.

In an inquest proceeding, the accused opted not to submit a counter-affidavit to negate the allegations filed against him.

Thus, the city prosecutor's office elevated the cases before the court.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy is also facing charges before the court for illegal possession of shabu.

He was arrested on October 21, 2018 at around 5 p.m.

Police Officer 2 Alvin Sisles said that while they were validating a report of illegal drug activities at Sitio Baho, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City, they saw the accused in an alley, fixing and examining a transparent plastic sachet believed to be shabu.

Because of that, they rushed to the accused's position and arrested him.

The city prosecutor’s office has recommended a P200,000 bail against the minor.

The city prosecutor’s office, in elevating the case to the Regional Trial Court, ruled that both minors had acted with discernment. (FREEMAN)
