Badian police ready for tourist influx

CEBU, Philippines —  The police in Badian town, southern Cebu are ready to step up security as they expect more tourists to visit the municipality next month in time for the Christmas and New Year’s break.

Insp. Elmond John Mondaya, chief of Badian Police Station, said they are ready to give assistance to the local and foreign tourists during that time.

“Kay daghan man ang walay klase ug trabaho anang panahona adto gyud ang mga tawo sa ilang lugar mosuroy,” Mondaya said.

Badian town, a three-hour ride from Cebu City, is home to popular Kawasan Falls, Lambug Beach, and adventure activities like canyoneering, among others.

Mondaya said he already instructed his men to be alert during the holidays. As of now, the town police manpower is only 21, including the police chief.

He said an augmentation from other units are welcome to help them secure the people and visitors of Badian.

“Sakto na sa seminar sa local government unit ang atong mga molupyo sa lugar nga moatiman sa mga turista aron dili sila motagam sa pagbisita sa atong lugar,” Mondaya said.

Mondaya, who assumed as the chief of police of Badian town last August, does not intend to replace the existing security programs in the town.

He emphasized that the old programs from the Philippine National Police (PNP) are still effective but he said they have to be strengthened and become more sustainable.

He also urged the visiting public to obey the rules in the town to avoid legal consequences. — JMD (FREEMAN)
