2 persons of interest in taxi driver slay

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has two persons of interest in connection with the robbery-slay of a taxi driver in Naya Village, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.

Senior Supt. Royina Garma, director of CCPO, said that the investigators are still establishing enough evidence before considering them as suspects.

“May person of interest na but we cannot disclose it pa kung ano ang actual participation. Just give us time. We cannot rush the investigation,” she said.

To recall, Victorio Molina, a cab driver, was shot dead by two unidentified assailants last Wednesday.

The assailants posed as passengers and, in a dimly lit area, robbed the victim of his earnings and shot him in the head.

Garma said that based on the accounts of witnesses, the assailants are not from the area as they do not look familiar.

She urged the public to come forward and help the investigators solve the crime.

Garma added an investigator does not have a deadline to make sure that the evidence presented to court will lead to conviction and the persons of interest will not be falsely accused.

She thanked the community for helping the police find the suspect in the robbery-slay of a college student in Barangay Tinago, following tips from the neighbors.

But Garma said the police will not get any reward since it is part of their job.

“Ang suweldo ng pulis yun ang reward niya. Trabaho ng pulis yun.  Ang dapat may commendation. We will commend the tracker team and the investigator,” Garma said. — MBG (FREEMAN)
