LTO to auction 540 impounded vehicles
CEBU, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO)-7 is set to auction around 540 vehicles that were apprehended and impounded for several years due to various traffic violations and for being colorum and having no registration.
LTO-7 regional director Victor Caindec said that these 540 vehicles are composed of 400 motorcycles and assorted motor vehicles like vans, sedans, coasters and jeepneys.
Caindec said these vehicles have to be auctioned as they are given only six months by Cebu Province to use the 3,000-square-meter impounding area for free.
"Naghuot na gyud mao ipang auction na gyud ni. Besides, the owners of the impounded vehicles have only six months to claim it but wala nila gi-claim na," said Caindec.
Caindec said that he plans to hold the public bidding within the month.
"Atong paninguhaon nga ma-auction gyud ni ang mga sakyanan before the end of the year," Caindec said.
Caindec said that they still have to iron out the documentation, the bidding process, among others.
They are also studying about how to go about the bidding whether it will be auction by lot or individually.
"The income of this auction will go to the coffer of the national government. As of now, we do not know yet how much will be the proceeds of this auction," Caindec added. — MBG (FREEMAN)
